Happy 10 Year Anniversary Studio Technique!

It has been 10 years since I officially started a training studio for professional artists in the feature film, VFX, and video game industries, working with artists from Pixar, Disney, Sony, Dreamworks, ILM, Lucasfilm, EA, Ubisoft and many many other incredible studios!

To the studios out there - Thank you for choosing me to work with your talent and productions. To the artists - thank you for working so passionately through my courses and workshops. To the academies and colleges - thank you for integrating my book, Movement & Form, into your programs. Thank you everyone who has supported me along this journey!

Happy 10 Year Anniversary Studio Technique! Here's to even more great things to come! 🥂

Young Tarzan

Young Tarzan sketch for a friend! It’s been a long time since I drew this character. Young Tarzan is the first character team I had the opportunity to work on at Disney as an animator, and prior to that, while studying animation, I was always inspired by John Ripa’s work in the original film. Tarzan was such a joy to work on as an animator, so much physical and action oriented animation while also being a beautiful and subtle character.

Continuing my series of poster art inspired by psychedelic poster designs, here is my version for Han Solo, this time with a James Bond twist! (It’s not my favourite of my series… might have to keep working on it.) But I thought I’d share it since the film just hit theaters this weekend!

May the 4th

May the Fourth be with You! Happy Star Wars Day! Was inspired by psychedelic poster art that I’ve seen in a few different exhibits this year. I thought I’d have fun with creating posters of iconic characters! I’ll share more soon!

Academic Study

Since I’ve been sifting through some archives I thought I’d share some old academic studies of facial features I had done a couple years ago.

Pris

My scribble of Pris from the original Bladerunner movie. Was watching Bladerunner on the plane from London, and sketching on the back of the inflight menu since my sketchbook was out of reach due to meal tray obstruction!

Anthropomorphic Ocelot

I took a moment away from working on the second volume of my Drawing Syllabus (Volume 2 focuses on anatomy), to do an anthropomorphic sketch.  I thought I'd share an image that provides some insight into my process, and the value of how anatomy translates to the final render.

At the National Portrait Gallery

Going through pads of paper and thought I'd share this two minute academic study that I did at a life drawing session at the National Portrait Gallery in London. The theater is lovely, though it's not an ideal set up to draw in unless you draw on a small surface, as seating is quite packed. But it's a nice experience and the gallery is always worth a visit!
